ISCN at the World Economic Forum

The International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN), in collaboration with the Global University Leader Forum (GULF), recently released Developing Skills for Future Leaders, a report that highlights how future leaders are best trained to address the pressing challenges of the world through full immersion in "living laboratories" of sustainability.

Sustainserv Managing Partner and ISCN Program Manager Bernd Kasemir said "This report highlights state-of-the-art case studies of campus sustainability, provided by 25 of the world's leading universities. This compilation provides inspiration for all of us involved in the training and education of tomorrow's leaders".

In addition to best practice cases from leading schools, Peter Bakker, President and CEO of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), provided a foreword that encourages the dialogue between universities and corporations on developing sustainability skills needed by future business leaders.

The ISCN provides a global forum to support leading colleges, universities, and corporate campuses in the exchange of information, ideas, and best practices for achieving sustainable campus operations and integrating sustainability in research and teaching. The network's Secretariat is operated by Sustainserv Inc., which manages member relations, network development, marketing and outreach, resource materials, and strategic program management activities.

Five years ago, the ISCN partnered with GULF, bringing together the heads of 26 top global universities, to develop the ISCN-GULF Sustainable Campus Charter. Organized into 3 core principles, the Charter requires a commitment at the highest level of the institution, and includes annual reporting on sustainability goals, initiatives, and performance. To date, presidents of more than 65 schools have endorsed the Charter.
