Team Supports Fuel Cell Vehicle Tests

Tuesday, 11 August 2009 07:27

For the next six months, Basel, Switzerland is the site of a field test of a hydrogen-fuel cell powered street sweeper.

This project, "hy.muve" (hydrogen driven municipal vehicle), is part of the collaboration “Experience space mobility in the 2000-Watt-Society Basel”, between the city of Basel and the ETH domain on testing and demonstrating environmentally friendly technologies. Sustainserv has coordinated this multi-stakeholder project for over three years, including providing support and management for various aspects of the project, including communications.

The research vehicle, named CityCat H2, is the first of its kind world-wide to be tested under real world conditions over a period of months. The CityCat H2 is being used by the city cleaning department of Basel in its regular cleaning operations.

This project was initiated by the Competence Center Energy and Mobility (CCEM-CH) of the Swiss ETH domain, conducted collaboratively with the research institutes Empa and PSI, the street sweeper producer Bucher Schörling, Proton Motor, and other partners, and supported by Novatlantis – sustainability in the ETH domain with socio-economic studies.
